Feed the Birds
Have you been inspired by the Big Garden Birdwatch? In 2016, more than 519,000 people all over the UK counted an incredible 8,262,662 birds and with the results just coming in from this years Birdwatch now is a great time to make sure the birds in your garden are well looked after.
We love this wooden Orla Kiely Birdhouse available in the NUGs store.
Throughout the Winter there can be food shortages for birds so it's important to make sure you are providing both supplementary bird food and natural sources of food like shrubs, flowers and well managed lawns and make sure there is plenty of water. Birds require high energy (high fat) foods during the cold winter weather to maintain their fat reserves to survive the frosty nights. Use only good quality food and scraps.
This ECO Bird Feeder is perfect for sliding on food like apples. Available in the NUGs store.
Over half of all adults in the UK feed birds in their garden and it is a fantastic way to get the kids excited about wildlife. We teamed up with Eco company 'A Short Walk' to provide these fab Bird Cake Kits and Bird Feeders, not only are you helping the birds but you are also being an eco warrier by using these recycled products.
You are most likely to see starlings, house sparrows, blackbirds, blue and great tits, robins, greenfinches and collared doves in your garden. With dunnocks, song thrushes and chaffinches enjoying hopping around on the ground below the bird table.
We've been really lucky to be feeding a Blackbird or two with the Pyracantha at the front of the house. Every time I come outside he flies off so am yet to capture a picture but it makes me smile that this vibrant plant is providing food for him.

By feeding birds all year round you will give them a better chance at surviving any periods of food shortages.
Happy bird watching!
